So many today don’t remember history, and don’t care about it. The essential controversy over “Israel” started with – was ginned up by – the Cold War. The US was running around somewhere beyond the fence (not, on it) until the Cold War turned hot.
I have a copy of I.F. Stone’s 1948 book, This Is Israel. Stone was card-carrying Left Wing. If memory’s accurate (at my age), he was pilloried in the years following for having helped compose that book.
