When exactly did Israel lose it? Recently? Just now?
I have a copy of a 1948 book by an American journalist – “This is Israel” by I.F. Stone – who also happened to be a card-carrying Marxist and was quite open and honest about it. The book was published just before the beginnings of the Cold War, before the Soviets determined that the affections of the Arabs would be a massive political plus. After that, the majority of the international press put their heads up their nether orifices, pretending that then-well-known I.F. Stone hadn’t written that book, which was a serious Cold War embarrassment. (I recall having first heard of the book, and of that embarrassment, back in the late Sixties.)
Also, go to the “murder” of Muhammad al-Dura on September 30, 2000. To the Jenin “massacre” in 2002. To the so-called “news” reports of the 2006 Lebanon war, in which Reuters and bloody-well near everyone else smeared egg all over their editorial faces. (The International Red Cross was even hoist on the Lebanese branch’s pseudo-journalistic petard.)
But also …. is it Israel which has lost it? …. Or Ben-Gvir and company?
Though Christian with zero links to Judaism and Israel, I’m old school secular Zionist. Have been for the past 60 years.
Ben-Gvir is driven by the same type of gut-level fervor which one finds in Hamas, Hezbollah, Pali Islamic Jihad, et cetera. I first read of Kahanism back in early 1970 and was shocked by it. 25 years later, the pseudo”religious” fervor so proudly displayed in the first attempt to destroy the WTC wasn’t a new thing to my eyes. Ben-Gvir’s kippah is a Henry VIII codpiece, merely worn on a different part of the body.
