I have a book — “Twenty Three Years: A Study of the Prophetic Career of Mohammad”. (Mazda Publishers: Costa Mesa, California: 1994)

I’ve never seen any indication that its author — native Persian ‘Ali Dashti — was any sort of Marxist, or radical Islamist jihadi.

This article makes me want to know for certain, if possible.

It is a very interesting book, casting the earliest history of Islam in a rather different light (one might say, radical.) Dashti was imprisoned by the Shah, and again by Khomeini. He died of injuries suffered in the latter, days after having been released from prison.
